In his April 5 column, "No Excuse for Inaction on Burma," Fred Hiatt quoted me as saying that I "recently suggested that she [Aung San Suu Kyi] is rigid and uncompromising."
My full quotation was that "many observers, including former NLD [National League for Democracy] members, find Aung San Suu Kyi's leadership rigid and uncompromising in negotiations with the military."
I was reporting on perceptions as conveyed to me in Rangoon. The full statement more accurately reflects my position and eliminates misunderstandings likely in the truncated version.
