There are several opportunities for qualified students from Burma to try and win scholarships in different countries, according to Burmese in Singapore and Netherlands. Almost all the speakers we contacted have suggested that English language proficiency is a must for anyone who wants to study abroad.

Simple things like filling in an application form should also be done with great care to maximise the chance of the application to be successful, most speakers have recommended.

Equal opportunity for Burmese students

Dr. Kyaw Yin Hlaing, Assistant Professor of Political Science at the National University of Singapore, has answered some letters from our listeners in Burma.

He has personally witnessed the equal opportunity, he explained, as he has been involved in the selection of students for school admission and awarding scholarships.

Dr. Kyaw Yin Hlaing has suggested a number of scholarship programmes in Singapore, including a programme for ASEAN citizens by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Lee Kuan Yew scholarship which is opened to all.

Opinion of Burmese student in Netherlands

Although Netherlands is new for most Burmese students, it may be a land of opportunity to study, according to Ko Aung Min, a student of Chemical Engineering in Rotterdam.

There are many scholarship programmes available for international students who want to study in Netherlands, Ko Aung Minn has explained when answering letters from Burmese students.

He also suggested websites such as http://www.nuffic.nl and www.studyinholland.com to be useful for Burmese students.
